Auroville's Raison D’être

“Humanity is not the last rung of terrestrial creation. Evolution continues and man will be surpassed. It is for each one to know whether he wants to participate in the advent of the new species. For those who are satisfied with the world as it is, Auroville obviously has no raison d’être.”

In the Mother's Symbol, the Center which is coloured either White or Gold, is Mahashakti.

The four petals, the Four Mothers, are Her Four Great Aspects, as enumerated by Sri Aurobindo in ‘The Mother’.

Thus in a larger representation and constant reminder to every invited participant in Auroville of the significance of the Mother's Symbol, such as the Matrimandir and Its Four Pillars and Twelve Petals and Gardens, Matrimandir is the Golden Center, the Temple of the Mahashakti Herself.

"But, to live in Auroville, one must be a willing servitor of the Divine Consciousness."

"The whole earth must prepare itself for the advent of the new species, and Auroville wants to work consciously to hasten this advent.

Little by little it will be revealed to us what this new species must be, and meanwhile, the best course is to consecrate oneself entirely to the Divine."
