Truth or the Abyss
Part 1: The World is Real, with Two Integral Sides
In the light of crystal clarity, we must address those still caught in a nihilistic mode—the old yogas of escape. To refuse the possibility of a 'Life Divine' on Earth via the advent of a new diviner species is to view the Supramental Vision-Goal of Auroville as a mere illusion. This skepticism often manifests as resistance to the building of the City of Dawn according to the Mother’s blueprint, i.e. the required inner and outer, spiritual and material paradigm-shifting transformations symbolised by the intense dynamic swirl of the Galaxy Plan.
"the idea of illusion is itself an illusion"
"The world is real, it is only our perception of it that is false."
— Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, Dual Supramental Avatar founders of Auroville

So what would be the appropriate psychological attitude behind the ongoing actions to remove these obstinate nihilistic elements, the undivine and anti-divine forces influenced by and influencing the mindsets of negation, from Auroville?
Sri Aurobindo has already given us the guidance based on Mother India's epic the Bhagavad Gita of the Mahabharata:
Samata and Loyalty to Truth
"No doubt hatred and cursing are not the proper attitude. It is true also that to look upon all things and all people with a calm and clear vision, to be uninvolved and impartial in one’s judgments is a quite proper Yogic attitude. A condition of perfect samata can be established in which one sees all as equal, friends and enemies included, and is not disturbed by what men do or by what happens.
The question is whether this is all that is demanded from us. If so, then the general attitude will be one of a neutral indifference to everything.
But the Gita, which strongly insists on a perfect and absolute samata, goes on to say, “Fight, destroy the adversary, conquer.”
If there is no kind of general action wanted, no loyalty to Truth as against Falsehood except for one’s personal sadhana, no will for the Truth to conquer, then the samata of indifference will suffice.
But here there is a work to be done, a Truth to be established against which immense forces are arranged, invisible forces which use visible things and persons and actions for their instruments.
If one is among the disciples, the seekers of this Truth, one has to take sides for the Truth, to stand against the Forces that attack it and seek to stifle it.
Arjuna wanted not to stand for either side, to refuse any action of hostility even against assailants; Sri Krishna, who insisted so much on samata, strongly rebuked his attitude and insisted equally on his fighting the adversary. “Have samata,” he said, “and seeing clearly the Truth, fight.”
Therefore to take sides with the Truth and to refuse to concede anything to the Falsehood that attacks, to be unflinchingly loyal and against the hostiles and the attackers, is not inconsistent with equality. It is personal and egoistic feeling that has to be thrown away; hatred and vital ill-will have to be rejected.
But loyalty and refusal to compromise with the assailants and the hostiles or to dally with their ideas and demands and say, “After all we can compromise with what they ask from us”, or to accept them as companions and our own people—these things have a great importance. If the attack were a physical menace to the work and the leaders and doers of the work, one would see this at once.
But because the attack is of a subtler kind, can a passive attitude be right?
It is a spiritual battle inward and outward; by neutrality and compromise or even passivity one may allow the enemy Forces to pass and crush down the Truth and its children. If you look at it from this point you will see that if the inner spiritual equality is right, the active loyalty and firm taking of sides is as right, and the two cannot be incompatible.
I have of course treated it as a general question apart from all particular cases or personal questions. It is a principle of action that has to be seen in its right light and proportions."

Key Principle in this pivotal chapter of the ongoing 58-year progressive Spiritual Evolution of Auroville the City of Dawn:
Inner spiritual equality and active loyalty to the Truth are not incompatible; they are the two sides of the same Integral Supramental Yogic shield.
Part 2: Beyond Passive Neutrality: The Material Armour of the City of Dawn
Auroville as it is now is very open and unprotected, infiltrated by all sorts of ego-bound anarchists and revelers. The trash they leave behind both physically and psychologically are unbearable and unacceptable for the envisioned Deva Sangha that is this City of Dawn. How aware are you of this fact, and how do you propose to tackle this problem without the full support and protection of the Government of Mother India?
Again, Sri Aurobindo and the Mother have already given the warnings and guidance in the following, that is why Auroville eventually evolved as the legislated Auroville Foundation:
"320—Governments, societies, kings, police, judges, institutions, churches, laws, customs, armies are temporary necessities imposed on us for a few groups of centuries because God has concealed His face from us. When it appears to us again in its truth and beauty, then in that light they will vanish.
321—The anarchic is the true divine state of man in the end as in the beginning; but in between it would lead us straight to the devil and his kingdom.
The Anarchic state is the self-government of each individual. And it will be the perfect government only when each one becomes conscious of the inner Divine and obeys Him and Him alone."

And in the discussion of the above aphorisms in the Agenda of 7 Feb 1970, the Mother, even while still in Her human body, was already having headaches with some Auroville invitees:

At present the unfavourable situation within the inner city grounds is still quite far from what was dreamt of as per our Integrated Three Core Ideal Vision-Goals and consequent Auroville Foundation Act. But the integral social framework is already established. Let's look at their multi-dimensional relationship:
- A Dream: Psychic and Aspirational
- The Auroville Charter: Ethical and Global
The above two are our Spiritual and Ethical beacons
- To Be a True Aurovilian: Individual and Collective Yoga, our physical-psychological-spiritual discipline, our Sadhana towards the Life Divine
- The Auroville Foundation Act and consequent ordinances: Our Material Armour and Legal Protection
The key participative question as we move forward:
How do we bridge the gap between our high spiritual ideals and the practical necessity of the Auroville Foundation Act, ensuring that our 'loyalty to Truth' manifests as a disciplined, protected, and evolving City of Dawn?
The Call to Action: From Ideal to Actual
In view of the ongoing spiritual and material battles and the intense challenges yet to come for a few more generations before the decreed Supramental Victory, I invite all who are committed to Sri Aurobindo and the Mother’s Vision-in-Action to reflect on—and answer—these three points of engagement:
- Individual Discipline: How are you personally practicing the "unflinching loyalty to Truth" in your daily work, ensuring that no "nihilistic" or "undivine" compromise enters your field of action?
- Collective Protection: How can we, as a community, better utilise the legal protective framework of the Auroville Foundation to ensure the physical, psychological and spiritual sanctity of the City of Dawn?
- The Material Grounding: What concrete step are you ready to take to ensure the Galaxy Plan moves from a "vision on paper" to a "living material reality", overcoming the resistance of the old consciousness?
"Auroville wants to be the first realisation of human unity based on the teaching of Sri Aurobindo, where men of all countries would be at home."
— The Mother
The time for passive neutrality has passed. Let us stand for the Truth, or be swept aside by the forces of negation.

Comme le disent Sri Aurobindo et Mère : “The idea of illusion is itself an illusion” et “The world is real, it is only our perception of it that is false.”
Comme le rappelle Sri Aurobindo : “Have samata, and seeing clearly the Truth, act.”
Comme le disait la Mère : “Auroville wants to be the first realization of human unity based on the teaching of Sri Aurobindo, where men of all countries would be at home.”
